Screens
I saw The Phoenician Scheme and really enjoyed it. Whereas Asteroid City felt almost revolutionary in the ways it kept deconstructing its story, The Phoenician Scheme is a much more straightforward caper film. It’s gorgeous, it’s funny, the acting is top-notch and I enjoyed the kinetic aspects of the violence. Michael Cera was fucking great.
We finally finished Andor and I re-watched Rogue One. Both were glorious!
Pages
I really cannot recommend this book more. I learned so much about parenting systems, disability culture, mutual aid, etc. It’s the kind of book that every human should read.
Food
My wonderful nephew visited this week and I made this chicken tangine (gift recipe!) in honor of his study abroad time in Morocco. DELICIOUS. As always, I added a little anchovy paste. I used this preserved lemon paste which is fabulous.
For dessert, I made this cake (gift recipe!) and added some chai spice mix. Despite adhering to instructions, the middle of this cake did not fully bake so I recommend adding 5-10 minutes to the baking time no matter what your toothpick looks like.
Smells
I purchased the Clue Perfumery sample set in order to smell the Warm Bulb fragrance but I totally fell in love with With the Candlestick instead. The description says, “the Blood of Christ pours as wax spills down hot iron” but I say “rack of votive candles in the back of a European Catholic church with a side of cherries”.

Clothes
Is Old Navy the American Uniqlo? I went in to pick up an extra, inexpensive bathing suit to wear to the pool/sauna and I found a really cool one as well as this preppy little number that I’m now wearing as a pool cover-up. Both items are super affordable with nice construction.2
Being Outside
We took my son on a birding walk over the weekend at the Brumley Nature Preserve.3 It was really fun! My favorite of the many birds we encountered was the indigo bunting. So pretty! The preserve is also beautiful.

Will the bathing suit probably fall apart by the end of the summer? Sure, but so do all of my other suits that cost way more! This is total bullshit planned obsolesce.
I lied to him and told him the walk was going to be an hour. It was 2.5 hours. Oh well, he made it.
